Over the past month, the Koalas have been exploring ocean and sea creatures still as the children are still interested in this and we have had great family input. We have learnt about fish, porpoises, whales and the fastest fish. We have talked about mermaids not being real and we are still watching our hermit crab live each day.
We have been watching the lifecycle of the chickens with Henny Penny hatchings which was a fantastic experience and hands on the for Koalas. We watched several chicks hatch in the incubator being little fluffy chicks that turned into brown and black chicks. We fed these each day caring for the chicks and watched them grow and develop with wings/feathers and getting taller in shape.
We have continued with our recycling project that originated from Sasha and our gardening with dealing with our worm farm also each week and composting.
We hope you all have a happy Easter and look forward to seeing you all at the Easter hat parade.

This week the Koalas have met some new friends in our room and have been helping them settle into kindy routine and our room. The Koalas have been checking out the worm cafe and flushing it and watering our garden with our worm juice. We do have some for anyone that would like to take someone to put on their garden please just ask an educator and we can get you some.
The Koalas have talked about Australia this week as it is Australia Week, we made some opera house collages and Uluru creative drawings after picture discussions of Sydney and Australian attractions. We made boomerangs and read many aboriginal big picture books about how the kangaroos got their tails l how a snake bit the sun and about the rainbow snake where the Koalas drew and painted their own interpretations. We talked Nakuru the Australian flag and the aboriginal and we painted these discussing the colours being red for earth, Black for the aboriginal people and yellow for the sun and we talked about our children that have an aboriginal background and we are accepting of all Australians and Multiculturism.

Welcome back to the Koalas, we hope you all had a happy Christmas and a great start to the new year. We had a fun filled first week back at kindy exploring our new environment , making new friends and settling into a new routine and using their self help skills. The Koalas have been playing in their new room having indoor /outdoor play and checking out our pets, fish worms and rabbit caramel. This week we have been settling in so the Koalas have been talking about their holidays and Xmas and getting to know the new educators over this side. We have been talking about our room expectations and all the new things we can do on the big side which is very exciting. Can you please bring in a family photo for our family wall so we can display these for the children in turn having a sense of security, familiarity and a sense of being and belonging.
Please also don’t forget we love weekend sheets so if you have time jot down anything you do on the weekends or during the week so we can include this into our program.
See you all around , if you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to ask Miss Ashlea, Miss Mel or Miss Kiah.
