Playing IT Safe

Playing IT Safe has been designed to help parents and carers support their child’s learning in early learning settings, by providing access to resources and online play-based activities that they can play with their child.

Research and advice suggests that co-viewing and co-playing with children helps to keep them safe online because parents and carers are taking an active role in what children are doing online, providing modelling of safe practices and being able to talk to them about it.

Playing IT Safe provides parents, carers and their children with a safe platform to play online and learn about the internet. It is important that parents and carers undertake these activities with their child to build trust and an understanding of their role in supervising and approving the content children see and how they interact online (both now, and as they get older).

Online safety education needs to start at a young age to set up a foundation for safer experiences and interactions. When everyone is open and transparent about what they are doing online, they are able to talk and support each other.

The resources below, including our play-based activities area, are where parents and carers can begin the process of supporting their children to play online in a safe way.

For further resources and information to help keep children safe online, visit the ThinkUKnow, eSafety and AMF websites.

    Dear Families,

Absences for the new financial year
In the 2021/2022 financial year, families were given an extra 10 allowable absences bringing the total number to 52. For the 2022/2023 financial year, this will revert back to 42 allowable absences.

Waiving Gap Fees
As of 1st July, 2022 we are no longer able to waive the Gap fee for absences due to COVID. Previously, we were able to waive the gap fee for four reasons:
1. The child or a member of their immediate household must isolate due to COVID 19.
2. The child is at a higher risk of severe disease from COVID 19 (this began from 27/1/22)
3. The service, or a room at the service is closed due to COVID 19.
4. The state or territory has restricted access to childcare in a region due to COVID 19.
As of 1st July, this no longer applies, and we cannot waive the gap fee for any reason.

Absences at the start or end of an enrolment
In the 2021/2022 financial year, CCS would be paid for up to seven absence days before the child attended their first day of care and after the child’s last physical day of attendance due to COVID related reasons without the need for a doctors certificate/evidence.
As of 1st July, CCS will only be paid for up to seven days before the child attended their first day of care and after the child’s last physical day of attendance for the below approved reasons only:
any of the additional absence reasons(click the link to see these reasons)
The child’s child care service has changed ownership
The child’s usual child care service is closed and the child attends a different service under the same child care provider
The child’s enrolment ceased incorrectly
The family have experienced a family tragedy. We ask families to please provide evidence for any of the above reasons.
