Balancing Child Care Subsidy

Balancing Child Care Subsidy first deadline approaching for families.

Families must confirm their income after the end of each financial year to ensure they are paid the right amount of CCS.

This “balancing” process is underway for two financial years – the 2018–19 financial year and the 2019–20 financial year.

Last year, the first deadline for the 2018-2019 financial year was extended because of COVID-19.

So, this is the first time we’ll reach a deadline. As well, two deadlines fall at the same time.

To note, the first deadline to report income for the 2018-19 financial year is approaching – 31 March this year.

Given some families may be unfamiliar with the process, service Australia have produced this short video to explain on services Australia website at;

https://www.dese.gov.au/child-care-package/child-care-subsidy/balancing-child-care-subsidy

What is balancing?

The deadlines for families to report income

what balancing means for providers (e.g. how you may need to adjust the gap fee if a family’s CCS changes after balancing).

Other resources on balancing

This page on our early childhood website details each deadline and the consequences if families miss them.

If you have further questions direct them to Services Australia or contact Kelly Mullins at front office on 0243677285

    Dear Families,

Absences for the new financial year
In the 2021/2022 financial year, families were given an extra 10 allowable absences bringing the total number to 52. For the 2022/2023 financial year, this will revert back to 42 allowable absences.

Waiving Gap Fees
As of 1st July, 2022 we are no longer able to waive the Gap fee for absences due to COVID. Previously, we were able to waive the gap fee for four reasons:
1. The child or a member of their immediate household must isolate due to COVID 19.
2. The child is at a higher risk of severe disease from COVID 19 (this began from 27/1/22)
3. The service, or a room at the service is closed due to COVID 19.
4. The state or territory has restricted access to childcare in a region due to COVID 19.
As of 1st July, this no longer applies, and we cannot waive the gap fee for any reason.

Absences at the start or end of an enrolment
In the 2021/2022 financial year, CCS would be paid for up to seven absence days before the child attended their first day of care and after the child’s last physical day of attendance due to COVID related reasons without the need for a doctors certificate/evidence.
As of 1st July, CCS will only be paid for up to seven days before the child attended their first day of care and after the child’s last physical day of attendance for the below approved reasons only:
any of the additional absence reasons(click the link to see these reasons)
The child’s child care service has changed ownership
The child’s usual child care service is closed and the child attends a different service under the same child care provider
The child’s enrolment ceased incorrectly
The family have experienced a family tragedy. We ask families to please provide evidence for any of the above reasons.
